What is the Havenwise flex trial?
The Havenwise flex trial is designed to help you save further money on your heat pump bills by accessing electricity flexibility markets. It works in addition to Havenwise's existing tariff optimisation. We're running this trial to assess the value flexibility markets can create for heat pump owners
What is electricity flexibility?
Electricity flexibility means shifting when a home uses electricity so that it helps the wider electricity system: consumption down when the grid is tight, up when there is surplus generation. It's a key part of our transition to a greener and cleaner energy system and helps to keep the grid stable. Providing flexibility to the electricity system is rewarded by companies that operate the grid. Once we know how large the monetary value of the flexibility is, we will share the benefits with users via a transparent mechanism.
Why are heat pumps a good source of electricity flexibility?
Heat pumps are a good source of flexibility for many reasons. First of all, your building and hot water tank are great stores of energy and consumption can be comfortably shifted around. Secondly, they use a lot of electricity, meaning they are big enough to make a difference.
What do I get out of the trial?
Payments for your existing Havenwise subscription are suspended for the duration of the trial. This is the fairest way we have to share the benefits of flexibility with users while we're assessing its value. During the trial, we will develop a sustainable scheme to share the benefits of flexibility with users, based on the learnings from the trial.
How long will the trial last?
The trial will last for 2 months.
Havenwise reserves the right to adjust the duration of the flex trial for all users, or any individual user, at any time.
