When setting a heating schedule in the Havenwise app, you tell Havenwise which temperature you want the house to be at during certain times. Havenwise will make sure your house is at those temperatures, and will do so in the most cost-effective way.
There are 3 golden rules for a good schedule
Set the temperatures you want at certain times. Don't worry about how your heat pump will deliver it, that's Havenwise's job.
Don't worry about your tariff and its cheap / expensive periods. Only think about your comfort needs. Havenwise will factor in your tariff in the background and will make optimal use of it.
Less is more. If nobody is at home during the day, you don't need to set a target temperature. In 90% of the cases, you don't need a target during the night. See below.
What does Havenwise do during the hours without a target temperature?
Here is what happens if you haven't set a target temperature for certain hours in the day.
In between schedules, Havenwise is looking ahead to your next programmed target temperature. It will calculate and execute the perfect time to start pre-heating, the optimal setback, and more.
What does a good schedule look like?
Example: When someone is at home most of the day
07:00–22:00 at 20°C (or whatever your comfort temperature).
Outside of these hours, you don't need a target. Overnight, it will calculate the optimal setback and pre-heat time for your morning target. And it will make use of cheap overnight electricity (if that is true for your tariff).
Example: When nobody is at home during the day
07:00–09:00 at 20°C.
16:00–22:00 at 20°C.
Outside of these hours, Havenwise will apply the most efficient setback and pre-heat the home. In doing so, it will also take into account your electricity tariff automatically (if relevant).
What does a bad schedule look like?
Bad schedules typically have the following characteristics:
Big differences between the target temperatures through the day.
"Overprogramming". This means trying to set a target temperature for every hour of the day to try to force the heat pump to be on or off during certain times.
Only programming targets during the cheap periods of your electricity tariff (this is actually counter-productive!).
Example of a schedule to avoid:
00:00–04:00 at 16°C.
04:00–07:00 at 25°C.
07:00–16:00 at 18°C.
16:00–22:00 at 20°C.
22:00-00:00 at 16°C.
Tip: To keep your heating efficient and comfortable, make sure the difference between the minimum and maximum target in a day is no more than 1.5–2 °C.
Conclusion
Pick a comfortable temperature, tell us when you want your house to be at that temperature, avoid big swings during the day, and let Havenwise do the rest.
