Why is my house hotter than the scheduled temperature?

Your home might be hotter than the scheduled temperature for a number of reasons - most of them aren't anything to worry about.

Havenwise is optimising for your tariff

If you have tariff optimisation enabled, we use your time of use electricity tariff to run your heat pump more in the cheaper periods and help cut your bills. We treat the house like a battery, "banking" heat during cheap periods so that we can coast through the peak. This can lead to your house being up to 1.5°C above the scheduled temperature but no higher.

It's a hot day

Havenwise can optimise your heating, but we can't stop the sun shining! If it's hot outside, you house may start creeping above the scheduled temperature. Havenwise will automatically turn your heating or off, but we can't cool your house down when it warms up.

Havenwise is maintaining an "optimal setback"

In between two setpoints, Havenwise calculates the "optimal setback." That means it calculate how far it can let the temperature drop before it needs to start ramping up again.

Very often, the optimal setback is not much below your target heating temperature (for instance only 1°C lower or even less). As a result, the heat pump may ramp down let the room temperature decline gradually, but might not be fully off.

Turning the heat pump off and ramping it up more aggressively just ahead of your setpoint would be a less efficient way of using the heat pump and would make things more expensive.

How much overheating is normal?

Some overheating is normal - especially if you are using tariff optimisation. Overheating which is less than 2°C over the schedule generally isn't anything to worry about.
