If you're too hot right now, but generally have been comfortable

You can either:

  • Temporarily activate the holiday mode for heating, and de-activate later again.

  • Press the "-" (minus) button on the home screen.

If you have been generally too warm at night

The most common cause of being too hot overnight is Havenwise's tariff optimisation pre-heating your home to take advantage of cheaper overnight electricity rates. This is for instance the case for homes on EV tariffs, which have super cheap periods in nighttime and early mornings, but also on some heat pump tariffs like Octopus Cosy.

To reduce this effect, you can:

  • Adjust radiator valves (TRVs) or thermostats in bedrooms to a lower setting for comfort. Your bedroom will be cooler while the rest of your home still benefits from pre-heating on the cheap rate.

  • Set an overnight setpoint in the Havenwise app 1-2°C lower than your daytime temperature. Remember to make small (e.g., 1°C) adjustments to find your most comfortable setting. That way, you can dial it in to find the perfect balance.

  • Disable time-of-use optimisation in the Havenwise app. If changing your schedule or adjusting TRVs / thermostats doesn't work, it may be best for you to disable time-of-use tariff optimisation on the settings page. The heating will then run more "low and slow", focusing on maximising efficiency and maintaining consistent temperature.
